9 Day Rwanda-Uganda Primates & Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Kampala- Kibale National Park

You will depart Kampala after breakfast and head westwards to Fort Portal town. The drive will take about 4 -5 hours. You will have lunch in Fort Portal and continue to Kibale where you will go for Bigodi Swamp walk to see a variety of birds and monkey species. Dinner and overnight will be at your reserved lodge.

Day 2: Chimps tracking and Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will report at the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre at 08.00 am for a briefing on the rules before tracking the chimpanzees. The trek for the chimps takes 2-3 hours and it will provide you with the opportunity to also see a variety of other primates and animals as well as birds, and various species of butterflies and insects.

After your chimps experience, you will head to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an evening game drive. After the game drive, relax at the hotel of your booking for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Game drive and Boat launch on Kazinga Channel

We set off for an early morning game drive (about 6.30am), an awesome experience to spot the animals in natural habitats to include elephants, solitary cape buffaloes, hyenas, lions, leopards, antelopes, warthogs and beautiful birds. This park has spectacular sceneries including Crater Lakes and rolling savannah plains overlooking the snowcapped Rwenzori Mountain ranges.

In the afternoon you will take a relaxing 2 hour boat cruise on Kazinga channel. This is a huge opportunity to spot more animals as they come to cool off down the stream. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos. This launch cruise offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colorful and stupendous with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 4: Game Drive in the Ishasha sector and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You will wake up early for a morning game drive in Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park commonly known for the famous tree climbing Lions, other wildlife species like Elephants, Topis, Leopards, Bush bucks, Cape Buffaloes, Defassa Waterbucks, Giant Forest Hogs, Uganda Kobs, among others.

Thereafter, set off for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Enroute you will see a great country-side, bamboo forest and have great views of the scenic landscape characteristic of the western rift valley.

Day 5: Bwindi Gorilla Tracking and Batwa Visit

We set off early in the morning for a 2-8 hour trek to encounter the Gorillas. Gorilla trekking is an enjoyable experience though demanding as we go through steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain drizzles before encountering any Gorilla closely. The thrill of your encounter will erase the difficulties of the potentially strenuous trek.

Upon the encounter you will spend a maximum of one hour with the Gorillas, taking photos and marveling at these elusive creatures feeding, grooming and resting as the youngsters frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display. After trekking you will return to your lodge for lunch and some rest and if the time permits you will go for a community visit (Batwa “pygmy people”) to explore the life styles of the people living around the park.

Day 6: Travel to Rwanda Volcanoes National Park and Community Visit

We leave early in the morning and set off for Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. Late afternoon, you will visit Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, Banana Beer Makers of Red Rock Programmes and Iby’iwacu cultural village. Dinner and overnight at your booked Lodge.

Day 7: Travel to Akagera National Park and Boat Launch on Lake Ihema

After a breakfast, you will drive to Akagera National Park in Rwanda arriving in the early afternoon. You will have lunch and later go for a boat launch on the beautiful Lake Ihema to see Hippos, giant crocodiles and a profusion of water birds that include the African fish eagle, papyrus Gonolek and the shoebill stork. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge booked for you.

Day 8: Full Day Game drive in Akagera and Travel to Kigali, Rwanda

You will have an early breakfast and set off for the Best of Uganda Rwanda Safari game drive in Akagera to catch up with the early risers plus large predators including lions and hyenas plus bushbuck, zebra, Elephants, giraffes, Buffaloes, cape elands, impalas, oribi and antelopes. Thereafter, you will travel to Kigali City Rwanda to your lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Kigali City and Departure

You will have an early breakfast and set off for Kigali City. You will have lunch and later visit the Genocide memorial site, a sobering and yet touching museum dedicated to the nearly one million people who lost their lives in the conflict and is now an educational site with museums and exhibits dedicated to preventing genocides around the world and interesting places in Kigali City. You will after the excursion transfer to the Airport for your outbound departure flight.

Safari Requirements:

  • Uganda & Rwanda Visas which can be got on arrival at the Airports
  • Chimpanzee and Gorilla trekking permits (paid for in advance through to our company)
  • Travel & Health insurance arranged for from your home country
  • Proof of Yellow fever vaccination (certificate}
  • Travelers must be at least 15 years old on the day of the trekking.
  • Good physical, fit health and mental condition
  • Waterproof Jacket, breathable with hood.
  • Insulated warm Jacket synthetic or down.
  • Long Sleeve Shirt and Waterproof Pants.
  • Footwear – Hiking.
