Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

You will have an early breakfast and travel to Butare, the second largest city of Rwanda. Butare is regarded as the intellectual city of Rwanda. It hosts the National Museum and several academic and research institutions. On your way to Butare you will visit the former King’s palace at Nyanza which was the seat of the feudal monarchy. You will visit the National Museum rated as one of the well set-up if not the finest ethnographic museum of East Africa and renowned for its source of information on the cultural history of Rwanda and the region. You will continue the journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park and check in at the lodge of your booking for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest

You will wake up very early in the morning (5.30am) and report at the Nyungwe Park headquarters for the 6.00am briefing on the chimpanzee tracking rules. You will after the briefing start the trek in search of the chimpanzees in the verdant rain forest. During the trek you will have the chance to see other primates such as the Rwenzori colobus, Silver monkey, the Grey cheeked Mangabey, L’hoests monkey and the Owl faced monkey. You will return to your Hotel for a late lunch and have the rest of the day to yourself to relax.

Day 3: Guided Nature Walk in Nyungwe Forest

You will have an early breakfast and set off for a guided nature walk in the forest to see a variety of animals and various species of birds. This forest is home to about three hundred bird species including the rare Rwenzori turaco and the black and white casqued hornbill. A walk in the forest is a whole learning experience about the botany, ornithology and ecology of the forest. You will return to your lodge for lunch after which you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park. You will have your dinner and overnight at the lodge of your booking.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking

After an early breakfast, you will transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla tracking rules. You will be allocated a Gorilla family to track and guides to lead you to the Gorillas. After gorilla trekking experience, you will be returned to the lodge for lunch. You will, later in the afternoon, be taken on a nature walk either to the twin lakes or musanve cave

Day 5: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali Airport

You will set off after breakfast to track the rare Golden monkeys in Parc Nationale Des Volcanoes. This activity will take you the whole morning and you will also be able to see other primate species such as vervet monkeys, baboons, and a variety of bird species and butterflies. The guide will explain to you how the primates behave and about the fauna and flora in this park. You will return to your hotel for lunch and drive to Kigali Airport for your flight back home.
